Hi,

What I'm about to post may sound out of left field or completely off-kilter given the seemingly unfortunate news but please, consider this:

a) Supergirl has lasted six seasons. That's five or so more than many initially predicted. The show did things and went places most people couldn't fathom five years ago. Some avenues worked out well, others were misses, but the effort and intent was there.

b) Despite the initial downbeat news, this does lift a burden off of the cast's (especially Melissa's) shoulders because it does provide a definite trajectory and a planned conclusion. Lives can move forward in different directions.

c) Just because the show is wrapping up after Season 6 doesn't mean the character will disappear. It simply means that another version / iteration will have a chance to appear (possibly in the proposed film or later on as an All-Access type TV or web offering) for another audience or generation to enjoy.

d) The actors on the current show stand in very good stead in that their work on this project has and will allow them to continue to gain work and remain relevant / in-demand in the industry. As an added bonus, Melissa's TV and acting stature and credentials rose substantially from being on this project and it will help her career in ways she might not have imagined six years ago.

e) When one door closes, another one will surely open. (Also, when one chapter finishes, another one begins). ;)

I definitely think Melissa should focus on other career projects, but there is no
"obvious" reason she can't also revisit Supergirl or Berlantiverse on occasion. Her recent stage work proved she isn't going to be typecast, so an occasional return, perhaps both in front and behind the camera, will not hurt her career opportunities.

U didn't say it couldn't happen....I was simply saying I don't want her near another CW show.....I do not believe this wonderful character was respected after the first season. We had some glimpses into what the series could have been. 1st half of Season 4/ Second half of Season 5. But the CW writers just never seemed to capture the shine of Season 1. So my desire is that Melissa leaves behind the CW and finds work that truly shows the talent she is.....


I won't lie,I would be thrilled if Melissa made the occasional guest appearance in the Arrowverse post season 6.I get the opinions of people who don't want that and the reasons but I just love Melissa's portrayal of the character and if she's willing,then I'll take it.

As for the article you linked to.We Got This Covered isn't very reliable but I hope it's true.As for the source,they are quoting(Mikey Sutton of Geekosity ),I do wonder about this.If you remember,a few weeks ago,I posted this in the end of Supergirl thread on the forum.Quoting myself from three weeks ago.

I just finished watching today's John Campea show.During the beginning of the Q/A section,actress Erin Cummings who is a regular on Campea's podcast let something slip that maybe she wasn't suppose to but could mean something or nothing or anything..

Erin Cummings has been in a lot of stuff.She was on Spartacus.She does a lot of guest appearances on stuff.She was on The Flash in season 5 for example and is in the newest season of Lucifer.She's going to be in the upcoming Will Smith film,King Richard

They were responding to a topic about Supergirl ending and the effects on the rest of the Arrowverse.Full warning:Campea is not a fan of the show.It was never really his cup of tea and he hates how Superman was treated on the show.He does acknowledge that Supergirl was a very important show though and has lots of fans.At the 50:56 mark,Erin makes some squealing noises and reveals that she has some," really juicy Hollywood gossip" and she can't tell Campea.She was sworn to secrecy.Campea asks if she can tell him off camera.She says that ,"she can't say anything."He asks again,if they can talk off camera.She says ,"maybe."But she ends it with,very quickly saying,"I just don't think we've seen the last of Supergirl."Make of that and speculate as you will.lol It's worth watching the exchange,again beginning at the 50.56 mark.It sure sounds like she's heard something.

My first thought was maybe Melissa has already agreed to do some guest appearances post Supergirl's season 6 series end on other Arrowverse shows.Or maybe it's something else or maybe nothing.

The reason I debated posting this is because it sounds like Erin Cummings heard some info regarding the end of the show and a possible future for Supergirl post end of series but isn't allowed to say and probably shouldn't have said even this(especially that last bit ).lol But since she did say something publically on a podcast,I figured it was fair game for speculation.

Well,a new Silver Lining for me is that atleast we are getting 20 more episodes and we aren't in the situation that just happened to fans of the Netflix series,GLOW.The same sort of thing happened with Stumptown too.With Glow,it's worse though IMO.

1)It's a show that has been running for three years and Season 4 was planned to be it's final season.
2)The series will now end on a cliffhanger from what I understand.
3)They had already shot the entire first episode for Season 4 before the pandemic hit.

Right this second,I'm feeling so lucky that we are getting a 20 episode final season.

Im pretty much the opposite thought process of most here. I don't want Melissa to guest star on other shows, or ever revisit this character....this season I hope gives her the send off she deserves. Melissa is headed for so much more bigger and better things....

100% agree. This project was a stepping stone onto bigger things. It was her foot in the door and now she's in a position to accept more roles as her star stature has risen substantially. I can easily see her doing a drama series or headlining stage work (pandemic permitting) in the near future.

Im pretty much the opposite thought process of most here. I don't want Melissa to guest star on other shows, or ever revisit this character....this season I hope gives her the send off she deserves. Melissa is headed for so much more bigger and better things....

I 100% agree. What the cast and crews have been able to pull off (despite the ups and downs) has been remarkable. That should be noted and heartily celebrated! ;)

I think its great that the series hit the 100 mark. 6 seasons is awesome. I would like them to split the 20 episodes into two mini arcs, like a short season 6 and 7, S opposed to one long season 6, but this is a gift to have advance notice. The rumored 9-10 month shooting schedule with 20-14 hpur shooting days is a huge undertaking. Having a marriage and new baby to juggle is a lot. I do hope she agrees to occasionally guest on and possibly direct episodes of the remaining series aftef Supergirl leaves the schedule. My hope has been for her to appear as Earth 2 Powergirl, but I'd love Kara pop up on Superman, Flash, BL, Legends and/or Batwoman after Supergirl ends. The end may not necessarily mean the end.

At least Supergirl can say she outlasted Wonder Woman on TV...1976-79 (ABC then CBS); and has had as many seasons as George Reeves "Adventures of Superman."

And since the show says it's going out on its own terms (but perhaps spurred by the low ratings caused by the hyper-political hammering of season 4 and the wonky writing of a mostly politics free season 5), I guess we'll have to reach into Lex Luthor's music library and pull out this gem from Mister Sinatra

Excellent points.

When you look at television productions, most projects never go to pilot. Most pilots never go to series. And six seasons is a fine run.

The road has indeed been bumpy at times. It seems there have been more "crises" behind the scenes than in the crossovers. ;)

I'm glad the show will go out on it's own terms. As frustrating as the recent seasons have been to me, the cast has never failed to elevate the material given them. They, in particular, deserve a victory lap.
